As Amy mentioned in our last blog post, while on the trail we had listened to several podcasts and one that she really liked, “Adventure Sports Podcast”, had actually interviewed us about our experience on the trail this year. Being interviewed by Mason Gravley was a lot of fun. He asked us some great questions about the trail and made us really think about what we got out of it. Well, the podcast just recently got released. If you are interested in hearing the interview with Mason you can follow the link here or look up Adventure Sports to find it.
We hope you all are doing well and staying safe!

Can’t wait to listen. It’s one thing to read your posts it’s a completely different experience to hear you telling your stories in your own words.

Very good! The podcast brought out details and issues that would have been difficult to cover in your on-trail postings. You both were excellent interviewees.

I finally found a window of uninterruptible time and enjoyed listening to the podcast interview. It was very interesting and dovetailed nicely with your daily reports from the trail. How you found the energy and drive to do it so faithfully after each hard day of hiking remains most impressive. Best wishes for you in all your future endeavors.

I’ve been reading PCT blogs after the fact for 4-5 years and your is the first I followed in real time. My adult son and I camped at Whale rock (below Muir Pass) in early August and thought of you guys. I listened to the podcast and I am a bit of a backcountry cook. Can you share more details on your dehydrating of evening meals? I would love some tips and tricks and recipes. My meals are awesome, but too heavy. Thanks and good thoughts to both of you! Davo

Hi Davo, I would be more than willing to share some of the things we do. We got started with dehydration by using some recipes from “Lip Smacking Backpacking” (a book from REI). We have since branched out and started to figure out how to make our favorite meals at home out on the trail. We typically add some type of protein (ie chicken, steak or salmon) to our dinners. We dehydrate those separately at home. Cutting them up into very tiny pieces helps to reduce dehydration time and rehydration on the trail as well. We then add that to soups and pasta dishes we also dehydrate. It might be a very lengthy response on here so if you want send me your email and I can even send you some of the recipes that we use along with how we then rehydrate those out on the trail. Look forward to hearing from you!
